Some Images from the Somme

No, we haven't forgotten that July is also the month of the anniversary of the opening of the Battle of the Somme in 1916.  Here is a selection of evocative images from Tony Langley presented without commentary to help us remember:

  1. It is amazing to me to realize that for most of World War I, the battlefield was a very small fraction of France. Trenches and a narrow No Man’s Land was the battlefield for most of the war. Unlike WWII, the vast majority of the land and towns of France and all of Germany was physically untouched by the war.
